Exhaust inspection

An exhaust inspection checks the whole system — from manifold to tailpipe — to catch leaks, corrosion and noise before they become an expensive repair.

What it is and how we do it

The exhaust carries engine gases away, cuts noise and treats emissions through the catalytic converter. During the inspection we lift the car and examine the manifold, pipes, flanges, rubber hangers, catalytic converter, muffler and tailpipe.

We look for holes, rust spots, cracked welds, loose clamps and damaged mounts. We also listen at idle and under revs to pinpoint hisses and gas escapes.

Symptoms and when to come in

A loud drone, a metallic hiss, exhaust smell in the cabin, floor vibration or a drop in performance are clear signs. Black soot around joints points to a leak.

Come in after high speed bumps, flooded roads or an underbody knock, and whenever you notice a new noise from below the car.

Why it matters and why Mr. Service

A leaking exhaust lets fumes into the cabin, raises fuel use and can fail an inspection. Catching it early avoids replacing the whole system.
